LETTER CARRIERS POISED TO STAMP OUT HUNGER
Thursday, May 12, 2011(DC Labor)
Remember
to leave your bags of non-perishable food by
your mail boxes this Saturday as
letter carriers conduct their annual food
drive. “In every corner of this
country, there are people and families who are
hungry, including children,”
says National Association of Letter Carriers
President Fredric Rolando, who
emphasizes that there has never been a greater
need for a successful drive. “As
letter carriers, we have the privilege of
serving communities six days a week,
of getting to know people, and we are grateful
to have the opportunity to serve
them this way as well.” The nation’s 230,000
active letter carriers will
collect donations and take them to a local food
bank, pantry or shelter,
including hundreds affiliated with Feeding
America, a national partner in the
drive. The NALC encourages people to leave a
sturdy bag of non-perishable
foods, such as canned soup, canned vegetables,
canned meats and fish, pasta,
rice or cereal next to their mailbox before the
regular mail delivery this
Saturday.
