It’s the little things that make a big difference

“Your help with food and my rent really saved the day for me,” said one grateful Community Services Agency (CSA) client. “I would have been on the street without your assistance.”

Your contribution to the CSA through Combined Federal campaigns now going on in your workplace will make a huge and tangible difference in the lives of working families in the metro Washington area.

As little as a dollar a week will help the Community Services Agency keep providing emergency financial assistance to hundreds of working families each year, preventing evictions, foreclosures and utility cut-offs. It will fund holiday baskets for needy families, provide information and referrals for struggling workers, as well as lay-off preparation and strike support, and job readiness and placement assistance for low-income folks who can succeed in construction and the trades.

Times are tough and it’s in times like this that labor has proven that we understand that solidarity extends far beyond the picket line and the organizing drive to help our fellow workers when they are in their greatest time of need. If you haven’t given to the Community Services Agency before, I urge you to consider contributing a dollar or two a week through payroll deduction this year. If you’ve contributed before, thank you and please consider increasing your contribution this year to help us reach even more working families in need.

The UNION choice for charitable giving, you can designate all or part of your annual contributions to CSA through the Combined Federal Campaign- 19579. For more info, contact Kathleen McKirchy, kmckirch@dclabor.org; 202-974-8221.

In solidarity,
Joslyn N. Williams
President, Metro Washington Council AFL-CIO
Labor Division Chairman, United Way Campaign
