Union Movement Donation and Dedication Ceremony for Memphis –Area Students

On Thursday,
Jan. 17, AFL-CIO President John Sweeney and
American Federation of State, County and
Municipal Employees (AFSCME) President Gerald
W. McEntee will join children at Hollywood Head
Start to announce a number of donations to
Memphis-area children. The donations include a
computer lab and dozens of computers as well as
$15,000 and school supplies.
The group will
then proceed to
“The union
movement is coming together to celebrate Martin
Luther King Jr.’s legacy,” said AFL-CIO
President John Sweeney. “Working people
across the country know that civil and worker
rights go hand in hand and that without the
tools for a proper education, students can
never go on to attain the kind of economic
equality in which King and other leaders
believed.”
